Catch Up 2019 and A Short Review of an Awful Book
Surprise! You're hearing from me on a Wednesday! Just like I warned you on Monday, but allow me to explain myself more fully now.
My reading goal for 2019 is 50 books and at the moment I have only reviewed 24. But I think I can still manage to finish (fingers crossed!). With my conviction to reach my goal I have realized that if I continue to only post weekly then I'd still be posting this years reading well into 2020. In order to avoid this, I will be posting at least every other day for the month of October so I can catch up with myself. So prepare yourselves to see a lot more of me in the coming weeks.
Now for a short review:
"American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis is an awful book and no one should read it. Not only is the writing pretentious and difficult to read, but I am tired of books being given a pass for being truly awful to women because they are *literature* and *classics*. I tried to get through this book because I know a blog of book reviews that are only books I enjoy wouldn't be interesting. But I had to stop because I won't read something that treats the killing, disfiguring, and destruction of female bodies as a positive sexual act. I am going to have nightmares about many of the scenes I read in this book and I thoroughly recommend that you learn from my mistake and never ever read this book.
XO, Ellen
