The Crossroads of Should and Must by Elle Luna

Sometimes I buy books because the topic sounds vaguely interesting and the cover is very pretty. This was one of those times. But then the book also ended up being really good, so it all works out in the end.

In this self-help book Elle Luna talks about how we continuously have to choose between what we should do (get a 9-5, buy a house, have kids, etc) and what we must do (often creative endeavors). In the book she talks us through figuring out what our must is and how to bring it into your life. If you can make money doing your must, great. If you have to have a day job to support your must, also great, as long as your day job doesn't take over all the time and energy you could give to what you really want to do.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do with my life and what I can do now to take steps in that direction and, ultimately, I don't know where I want to end up. But for right now I want to write and while that isn't my day job, my day job allows me to have the time and energy to work on my writing. And for now that's all I really need.

This book was lovely to read and helped me organize a lot of disorganized thoughts that have been bouncing around my head since I graduated from college. I read it in one sitting, which was awesome, and I'm excited to own it so I can go back to it again and again. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who isn't sure about what they want to do, I think it will help.

XO, Ellen
