Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson
"Another Brooklyn" is a story that is told through memory. This book doesn't go neatly through beginning, middle, and end. We follow the memories of our narrator, wherever they take her. This is a story about growing up, girlhood, where you're from, life, and loss. Jacqueline Woodson beautifully tells the story of four friends as they find each other and grow apart.
I loved reading this book, the story pulled me in and held my hand until I reached the end where I wished for more. This was the first book by Woodson I have read, but after listening to an interview with her on a podcast I put all of her books on my Goodreads "Want to Read" shelf, and this was my start to working through them.
I would absolutely recommend this book; it's a lovely and quick read. I've been having a hard time getting through any books (yay quarantine depression) so this book was really lovely to get so into.
I hope you're all doing your best through this madness that is the world right now.
XO, Ellen
P.S. The Provo Library opening up for curb-side pickup has been the best thing to happen to me in the past few weeks so I now have 7 new books (including this one) to get through. Please ignore my expansive owned to be read pile and just celebrate this with me :)
