Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson
With each chapter told from a different perspective, we slowly hear the story of the life of a family from the point of view of each individual until we are able to put the disparate pieces together. In this beautifully written novel we see how a story can change drastically just by who is telling it and how family trauma stays with us and affects every new generation.
This book was a beautiful read. Seeing the world through the eyes of all these different characters added a depth to the story that couldn't have been achieved with a single perspective. I honestly don't know what else to say, this book was just so beautiful and I loved reading it and I'm having a hard time talking about it in any more depth.
I would recommend this book. It was a quick read, just a few hours in an afternoon, but I loved every moment. I'm making a particular effort to read books by Black authors and it has been awesome. My only struggle is there are so many excellent books to choose from!
